Mom's Sunday Sauce

2 hr 30 min · Serves 6–8

The slow Sunday sauce, exactly as it was written on the back of an old envelope.

Ingredients

  • 2 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper

Steps

  1. 1Brown the ground beef in a large pot, breaking it up as it cooks.
  2. 2Add the onion and garlic and cook on low until soft.
  3. 3Stir in the crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce.
  4. 4Add the sugar, oregano and bay leaf, then season and simmer two hours uncovered.
  5. 5Remove the bay leaf, taste for salt and rest before serving.
